As all readers will be aware Diabetes is a growing problem throughout the country, we are now told that children as young as two years old are developing Type 2 Diabetes. We must endeavour to fight this and the only way forward is research.
Every year during ‘Diabetes Week’ money is raised for such research by folk all over the country undertaking sponsored walks. The Sutton Coldfield Group of Diabetes UK is no different and we have also arranged such a walk in Newhall Valley Country Park, Wylde Green Road, Sutton Coldfield B76 1QT. The walks are not onerous indeed the longest walk is only 2 miles and there are shorter walks to accommodate everyone; it is a delightful park and I am sure everyone would find it most enjoyable.
The event will take place on Saturday 16th June at 2.00pm, the event also includes a balloon release with a prize for the furthest flight. If you are interested and would like to join us please contact Iris Farley on 0121 350 6789 who will register you and send you a sponsor form.
Should you feel unable to walk then please come along and have a cup of tea with us and watch the walkers setting off or returning. |

| We have a different speakers each month covering a wide range of subjects, not always medical, but DEFINATELY interesting and entertaining! The Diabetes team from Good Hope Hospital are regular visitors to our meetings where they take a question and answer session, answering questions on many varied diabetes subjects. |
It is a friendly group and everyone is made welcome. Advice to anybody is always available. It is helpful to meet with people living with the same condition and we all try to help each other with any queries, especially as many of our members have been diabetic for a long time so between us we can usually help solve the majority of dilemmas! |
At each meeting we have a small raffle to help raise funds and also serve tea and coffee at the beginning of the evening. Our meetings begin at 7.30pm and are usually concluded by 9.00pm.
It is not necessary to live in Sutton Coldfield to become a member of our group, and there are no fees to pay! We are always pleased to see new members. We look forward to seeing you all at our next meeting!
